Founded in 1990, The Dehydrator has become one of Oklahoma’s premier cycling events. Officially endorsed by the Oklahoma Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, The Dehydrator offers participants their choice of either a fun ride, or, a professionally timed race. The fun ride offers distances of 10, 25, 50, and 62 miles typically heading south of Duncan towards scenic Waurika Lake and back. The physically demanding race is held north of Duncan, around area lakes, and is comprised of multiple laps of 14 miles, depending on age and gender brackets. The event is staged at Duncan’s wonderful Simmons Center recreation facility where entrants can enjoy ‘run of the house’, including showers, pool, saunas, and gym equipment. A delish-i-o-so meal is included and served up around noon, along with medals and jerseys for the racers. The event is sponsored by the Duncan Band Boosters, and proceeds go to support the local band programs, as well as supplying new bicycles for the Toy Shop Christmas drive.
