Cowboy Up!
Head over to the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center on Saturday, July 27th, from 10:00am to 5:00pm, to celebrate the National Day of the Cowboy! There will be activities for all to enjoy like special performances by cowboy singers, authors and poets, a variety of kid's games, showcased exhibits and more! Kids' activities will include face painting, horse shoe tosses, laser shooting, pin the horn on the longhorn, there’s a snake in my boot, storytelling and an art contest!
This year's theme will be the "Black Cowboy: Tall Tale or Top Hand", focusing on the accomplishments of African American cowboys from the Chisholm Trail era to today. There will be guest appearances by 8-time world champion tie-down roper, Fred Whitfield, and Wallace Moore, a professional reinactor and author of "Ebony Horse Soldiers"! There will also be a special photography exhibit by Ron Tarver featuring “The Long Ride Home: The African American Cowboy Experience in America”.
This event is free and open to the public, so be sure to bring the whole family out for a fun-filled day of celebrating the life and times of the national cowboy - past and present!
